Portuguese artist Luiz Arthuso is quite clearly a big fan of superhero movies and has created this great series of minimalist poster art, mixing some of those movies with other well-known non-superhero movies. For example he mashes the Hulk with Star WarsSuperman with Back to the Future, The Joker and The Grinch, and many more.

Here is a translated description of the pieces in this collection:
Over a series of posters minimalists where, this time, I mix some heroes and villains in films that recall its main features, such as “Saving Private Ryan” with Steve Rogers (Captain America). The book “1001 Movies to see before you die” and the magazine “The curious guide of Super Heroes” were the main sources of references, where I spent the most time trying to get ideas of combinations between characters and films. The production was the fastest part of the process, since we had such a minimal footprint, without many details and frills.

Here is a great collection of pieces from the upcoming “Mucho Machismo” art show, celebrating the action stars of films of the eighties.

Many of these stars are making a come back now thanks in part to The Expendables. But the 80’s action movies that made them famous in the 80’s are just as distinctive as they are, featuring big muscle-bound men accomplishing insurmountable tasks, decorated with squirting blood, massive guns and fists to the face. Starring legendary names like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jean Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, in such revered films like The TerminatorCommando, RockyRoboCop and Aliens and Rambo. And yes, you’ll even notice Danny DeVito in there. No, Twins was is definitely not classed as an 80’s action movie but it’s a fun mashup of Twins and Total Recall. Now Spoke Art is creating an art exhibit that’s all about the craziest era in action film history.

It’s called Mucho Machismo: First Blood Part One and features works by Godmachine, James Flames, Tim Doyle, Methane Studios, Gabz, Alan Hynes and many others.
